CIBJO, The World Jewellery Confederation, launched a new Web site on Oct. 29, Sustainablejewellery.org , which provides information about the jewelry industry`s role in corporate responsibility and in promoting sustainable economic and social development in the countries where it does business.
The site was launched at a meeting at the U.N. headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, where CIBJO representatives and U.N. officials discussed these issues.
"The Web site is not only intended to act as a source of information for our industry about what we can do, but it also will inform both our members and the world about what is actually being done at the grassroots level," CIBJO President Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri said in a statement.
A main feature of the site is the Industry Case Studies section, which currently describes 16 grassroots projects taking place in countries around the world. In addition, the site`s extensive Media section provides information for journalists, such as relevant documents, speeches and presentations by industry officials, political leaders and economic leaders, on how the jewelry sector is a positive force in promoting sustainable development.
CIBJO is the international confederation of national jewelry-trade organizations. Its purpose for the industry is to encourage harmonization, promote international cooperation, consider issues and protect consumer confidence.
