International jewelry buyers who make the annual pilgrimage to Vicenza in January are there not only to shop but to gain market intel from Italian designers, longtime forecasters of the year`s hottest trends.
Yellow, rose and white gold boasted equal amounts of real estate at Vicenzaoro Winter 2007, where there was a particular emphasis on textured metals, open-link chains, cut-out designs and organic themes. The Italians played up craftsmanship, offering designs heavy on detailing and hand-engraving–touches that are sure to appeal to consumers who value individuality and creativity.
Non-transparent gemstones such as moonstone were a clear favorite, although designers also continued to pit black against white. Many designers also touted super-long necklaces–20 inches or more–as top items for spring.
Large medallions, oversized hoop earrings, charms, chunky cuff bracelets, jewels meant for layering and fashion-forward pearl designs will carry over into this year from 2006, but gothic-inspired pieces and skull and crossbones have been left in the dust.
