The newly formed Namibian Diamond Trading Company (NDTC) will announce its list of customers for the next contract period at the end of October.
In an interview with The Namibian newspaper, NDTC’s sales and marketing manager, Paulus Shituna, said that 18 companies had applied to be NDTC sightholders for the next three and a half years beginning January 2008. NDTC is currently reviewing the applications and the successful clients will be revealed October 29, Shituna said. NDTC was set up in January 2007 as a joint venture between the Namibia`s government and De Beers, to serve as the marketing arm of Namdeb — the diamond mining joint venture between the two. The company undertook to ensure that 16 percent, or about NAD 2.1 billion ($310 million,) of Namdeb’s rough diamonds are supplied to local cutters and polishers. |
