Bangkok Jewelry Fair Gives 'Windows on Thailand' to Foreign Businesses

RAPAPORT… Thai Press Reports: On September 20, 2007, Suthee Na Lumpang, ambassador attached to the foreign ministry, welcomed 20 diplomatic corps and foreign businessmen who visited Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair 2007 held at Challenger Building. The event is a part of the Windows on Thailand Project which was initiated by the foreign ministry in order to promote the key trends of Thailand`s jewelry industry. The program also strengthened the relations between Thailand and foreign countries in the fields of trade and culture. The participants had an opportunity to explore the renowned Thai Arts and crafts for their distinctive style and sensibility. Over the past two decades, Thailand has also emerged as a center for the cutting and polishing of diamonds. On this occasion the foreign diplomats and businessmen received a briefing on The Beauty and the Art of Thai Jewelry, which was an inside look at the gems and jewelry industry by the Thai Gem & Jewelry Traders Association. A presentation was provided on jewelry manufacturing in Thailand by Gemopolis Industrial Estate; and another presentation on jewelry design was provided by Arpege Co. Ltd. Speakers explained to visiting business people that Thailand is rich with gem and jewelry design traditions, and that the country is striving to be at the center of world`s gems and jewelry production.
